As we draw closer to the end of 2023, we reflect on the year that’s been with still plenty to follow. One of the biggest takeaways for us this year has been recognising the need to remain in the present with a strong desire to keep on learning.

Upon attending Cybercon23 at the Melbourne Convention Centre last week, in a room full of “Techies”, we felt way out of our depth in many discussions around cyber security. However, it did bring to light the continuing need to educate ourselves in this ever-changing landscape of the tech world.

It gave us a great deal of perspective and was well worth attending.

We’ve found that clients who remain open to learning about cyber risks are already a step ahead of the rest. Education is power, and with this knowledge we can help create the cyber safe environment that business needs.

One client we spoke to immediately after the event had already adopted a program that provides a 24/7 Detection and Response monitoring of their valuable business services but acknowledged that even having such automation in their business isn’t full proof either.

We quote cyber insurance regularly and just to give you a snapshot of the last 6 months, have created policies for financial planners, lawyers, accountants, IT consultants, supermarket, transport operators…but to name a few.

Our priority is to ensure a business has the best security measures in place, allowing them to have top level cyber posture*.

Some simple ways a business can maintain good cyber hygiene:

  • Stay informed. Ask your Managed Services Provider (MSP) what systems they have in place to protect your IT 24/7.
Also welcome a discussion with MSPs anytime about the Cyber Partner Protect program package we will be offering in 2024.
  • Train your staff. Your business is only as secure as your staff, so teach them what to look out for in terms of a phishing email, or how to use a device outside the parameters of the office environment like an airport or a shared office.
  • Hold an up-to-date cyber insurance policy. CoveriT are specialists in cyber risks management. We can devise a proper plan for your business.

Sometimes it feels easier to bury your head in the sand rather than to take the time to learn something new. That’s what we’re here for! We do all the hard learning and then synthesise it into the pieces that are specifically relevant to your business.

If you know your business could do with a little cyber hygiene upgrade before the end of the year get in touch so we can give you that peace of mind at least in knowing.

Please review our latest article and reach out anytime to discuss what those risks may look like for your business.
